Purpose and background:
This position involves planning and coordinating WFP’s commercial transport operations to ensure effective delivery of food assistance throughout Ethiopia. Given the current food insecurity and challenging security situation, WFP is providing assistance to over 4.7 million recipients in Ethiopia, requiring a robust supply chain strategy.
Main tasks:
- Manage operational planning for inland and land transport, including allocations for the WFP fleet and commercial transporters.
- Supervise supply chain personnel, set goals, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Ensure efficient transport within the WFP supply chain network, even in complex regions.
- Develop and manage logistics plans, conduct data analysis, and make recommendations to optimize transportation operations.
- Ensure compliance with WFP logistics guidelines and support capacity building efforts.
Required qualifications and experience:
- Education: Advanced university degree in supply chain, logistics, business management or a related field or first university degree with additional years of relevant experience.
- Experience: At least three years in logistics or transport in a humanitarian organization or in the private sector, including team management.
- Skills: Knowledge of managing logistics operations, knowledge of transportation market trends, familiarity with customs processes and experience with corporate systems.
Languages: Fluent oral and written English and Amharic skills.
