The Opportunity:
The position holder is primarily responsible to coordinate and implement the Nutrition component as well as humanitarian component of the integrated WASH, Nutrition project in two project districts of Tigray regional state and to insure the linkage to the Country RMNCH, WASH and Nutrition Program at the project level. The post holder is responsible for the delivery of results in line with pre-agreed project plans and objectives and oversees Project implementation at all stages throughout the project cycle. Given that a significant amount of the project thematic activities is done in partnership with key government sector offices, s/he will have also a key aspect of the role is nurturing, developing and facilitating the achievement of results.
Dimensions of the Role
The position holder will be responsible for all operational aspects of the humanitarian intervention and ensuring the quality and effectiveness of Plan’s Emergency Nutrition response within his/her designated geographical area mainly related to three core areas: Emergency nutrition, Emergency Child Protection and Emergency WASH related projects including handling manpower and budgetary aspects of the projects.
The position holder will report to the to the area manager based in Mekelle with a dot line or matrix relationship to Nutrition at country office, and technical communication to Nutrition Specialist at the country office.
The Individual:
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications/ experience essential:
- MSc/BSc in Nutrition, Public Health and other related fields is required with a minimum of 7 years working experience preferably in NGO setting.
- Good managerial experience, including managing budgets and teams
- Demonstrated leadership skills including in influencing and advocacy
- Well recognized behavioural skills to engage with stakeholders and partners
- Deep understanding and knowledge in managing emergency response projects/programmes
Qualifications and experience desirable
- Equipped with sufficient level of awareness on : Early warning concepts; Disaster risk management practice and knowhow on; Health/Nutrition; food security framework; good understanding of national government policies.
- Knowledge of Plan policies and procedures, Sphere and the Red Cross/ NGO Code of Conduct
- Knowledge of child rights programming
- Good knowledge of field level realities of humanitarian NGOs work;
- Hands on experience on Health and Nutrition Projects Management;
- Knowledge of FSL, WASH, DRR, CTP, EWS, DRR and DCM;
- Good understanding of the external operating environment including government policies, strategies, guidelines and operating procedures in managing emergencies and disasters in the country especially in Tigray Region
- Perform multiple, non-technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions and requirements.
Languages required
- Fluency in English language is essential
- Knowledge of local language is desirable

Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI)
- Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
