The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA or ECA) was established in 1958 by the United Nations Economic and Social Council to encourage economic cooperation among its member states (the nations of the African continent) following a recommendation of the United Nations General Assembly. It is one of five regional commissions.
Position 1: CRVS Research Supervisor
Duties and Responsibilities:
The specific duties involve:
- The supervisor will be expected to support the researchers under their supervision to develop the research problem and appropriate protocol creatively and independently.
- The supervisor should be fully knowledgeable of the course materials in Moodle so that he can support the researchers to understand them and guide them to complete their assignments.
- The supervisor will provide or link the researchers to relevant sources of literature, reports and provide expert guidance on the identified CRVS theme.
- The supervisor will support the researchers to develop a feasible workplan, activities, timely outputs that will lead to the attainment of the main goal, which is to produce a publishable research manuscript.
- Evaluating the progress and performance of each researcher in regular and informative ways, consistent with the manuscript development practice and research ethics. The supervisor will report to progress of each researcher monthly to the Chief.
- The supervisor will be expected to ensure methodological rigor, oversee the data analysis and interpretation through regular professional meetings with mentee and monitor the development the draft manuscript.
- The supervisor will run research seminars and workshops for the researchers under his supervision.
- The supervisor will be expected to support the researcher to develop quality publishable manuscript using his/her professional expertise in the field and suitable research record.

Minimum Requirements:
Education:
- Doctorate degree in demography, population studies, public health, social sciences, or related quantitative subject. The applicant should have undertaken course in statistical programming and advanced statistics.
Experience:
- Two or more years experience at senior lecturer level Experience in supervising research students at postgraduate level undertaking dissertations in the field of demography mainly using census and civil registration data.
- Experience in undertaking advance statistical methods and interpreting the results from multivariable analyses.
- Experience in publishing research articles in renowned journals in the field of demography and population studies. Must have taught courses in demography at university at postgraduate level.
Languages:
- Excellent writing capabilities in French. Ability to communicate in English will be an added advantage.

Position 2: Consultant
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise desk review existing African NDC, assess and identify gaps that could be closed for economy wide enhanced NDC ambitions.
- Coordinate and supervise desk review and widely consult with stakeholders supporting NDC preparation in Africa, including OIBC4 partners, the NDC Hub, National NDC focal points, and the UNFCCC Secretariat among others, to collect inputs into the development of new revised framework for NDCs 3.
- Identify and assess available economic, financial and environmental data and other relevant information which can be deployed to guide the preparation of the NDCs
- Develop a framework to guide member states in the preparation of the NDCs, and especially how the NDCs will be implemented through Long-term Low Emissions Development Strategies (Lt-LEDS).
- Identify 3 member states in which to validate and implement the NDC support framework and, working with relevant stakeholders, support the selected countries to elaborate, finalize and communicate their new NDC.
