Action Against Hunger is an international, non-governmental humanitarian organization that takes decisive action against the causes and effects of hunger through implementing relief and development programs globally. Established in 1979, Action Against Hunger has been leading the global fight against hunger for over 40 years in more than 50 countries, saving children’s lives and working with communities before and after disasters to enable self-sufficiency and prosperous communities.

About the Country Program in Ethiopia:

Action Against Hunger’s Ethiopia country office was established in 1985 in response to severe drought and subsequent famine. It operates in six regions of Ethiopia (Amhara, Benishangul Gumuz, Gambella, Somali, Oromia, and Tigray) and Addis Ababa city administration. The organization responds to different crises and builds people’s resilience through a multi-sectoral strategy integrating nutrition, food security and livelihoods, WASH, and mental health and psychosocial support activities. With over 900 staff in Ethiopia, the main donors in 2023/24 include BHA, ECHO, EU RESET, UNHCR, UNICEF, and others.

1. Food Security and Resilience Consortium Manager

Location: Addis Ababa

Salary Scale: $1,407

Skill and Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s or MA degree in Food Security, Livelihood, Public Health, Nutrition, or related fields.
  • At least 3 years of direct experience in consortium management in humanitarian and development programs (NGO setting).
  • Proven track record in humanitarian-development-peace nexus programming or work experience in technical areas like CSA, NSA Livelihood, and NRM/DRR sectors.

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Excellent strategic humanitarian development and peace context analysis.
  • Proven project management in post-crisis, recovery, and resilience programming.
  • Strong management and leadership skills in diverse and complex work settings.
  • Strong communication, networking, and representation skills.
  • Basic knowledge of ACF programs and procedures is advantageous.

Skill and Educational Background:

  • BA or MA Degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Management, Development Studies, Sociology and Social Anthropology, Geography, DRR, Food Security, and Livelihoods.
  • Eight (8) years of relevant professional work experience in humanitarian organizations (NGOs), with at least six years in food security, livelihood, and resilience building, or long-term resilience building programs coordination role for MA Degree holders, and ten years for BA Degree candidates.

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Computer knowledge; excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken); report writing skills; ability to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of programming in vulnerable environments, including conflict environments.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills and ability to effectively liaise with government, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
