Safaricom Ethiopia is looking for a qualified person who meets the criteria indicated below.

Safaricom Ethiopia is owned by an international consortium including Vodafone Group; Safaricom PLC; Vodacom Group; Sumitomo Corporation – one of the largest international trading and business investment companies; and British International Investment (BII) – the UK’s development finance institution and impact investor.

Position 1: Regional Operations Head

Technical / professional qualifications:

  • Degree in Engineering or master’s in engineering (Essential)
  • At least 12 years’ experience in   Operations within a telecommunication network operator or vendor, and a minimum 5 years as a people’s leader, inclusive of the following:
  • Must have at least 5 years’ experience in one of the following operational areas: Radio Planning & Optimisation/Radio Maintenance & Transmission/Network Performance Management/Project Management/ Property

Role purpose: To lead and direct the Operations function to ensure a reliable high quality network service is provided to customers.

Key accountabilities and decision ownership:

  • To provide leadership to the Operations team to ensure Safaricom strategy is embraced and executed in their respective region of responsibility.
  • Improving customer experience and overall quality of service through network optimization, performance management and proactive network maintenance
  • To ensure the region meets set network expansion targets without compromising network quality.
  • To come up with strategies to reduce cost to operate.
  • To ensure effective execution of sound network capacity plans end to end i.e. RAN and Access transmission.
  • Execution and effective execution of new technologies such as LTE, ensuring zero negative impact on network quality and revenue.
  • Develop and control operational budgets to promote profitability within agreed financial parameters in the respective region.
  • Maintain great working relationships with regional executives in Sales & Distribution and External Affairs to ensure effective co-ordination of all regional activities in support of the company’s core objectives.
  • Provision of effective leadership towards the vendors and the subcontractors to ensure efficient operational delivery.

Place of Work: Hawassa, Dire Dawa, Mekelle, Bahir Dar, Amhara

Position 2: Regional Security Officer

Must have technical / professional qualifications:

· Degree in Security Management/Administration or any technical or business discipline

· At least 4 years’ experience in corporate security with adequate exposure in leadership appointments.

· Service in the discipline forces preferably not below the rank of “captain” from the Military or it’s equivalent in the police service will be an added advantage .

· General knowledge of Ethiopian Laws and Government Regulations pertaining to law enforcement

– Knowledge of local language is desirable.

Role purpose: Responsible for the management and delivery of round-the-clock physical and personnel security operational requirements within the assigned region.

Security and Safety advisory support across the business units in the assigned region.

  • Investigate, follow-up and resolve security issues/cases affecting company mobile and immobile assets e.g. facilities, network equipment/property, staff, documents etc.
  • Assist company staff, through liaison with law enforcement agencies, on resolution of matters that require such intervention.
  • Liaise with law enforcement agencies and sensitize regional company staff on general insecurity trends, personal/residential security awareness.
  • Coordinate the conduct of bi-annual security awareness briefs at all manned company facilities in conjunction with contracted Security Risk Management Consultant/agencies
  • Develop budgets and forecasts for all physical and personnel security related services for Safaricom facilities in the assigned region
  • Manage the assigned security budget and all security related projects including timely cost administration and payment of vendors
  • Indirect: Manage security personnel seconded by contractors on service provision within the assigned region.
